"Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind." – Nathaniel Hawthorne
We all carry with us precious memories – of family, friends, times past. But memories can also be shifty, especially when we set to write them down. Perhaps they feel a bit worn or frayed at the edges. Or maybe they refuse to sit tidily on the page and instead meander, jump around or hide. Yet that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be written. With patience, and guiding principles and exercises, they can be coaxed into shape.
Join experienced writer and editor Robin Pridy as she takes you on a journey through the notion of memory itself, delving into the various, unique ways in which people have sought to tell their own stories. Use a variety of prompts and guides to wander through your memories, and help get to their truth, to their beauty and their sadness, and to what makes them so precious. Please bring along any notes, or pictures, even recordings that you want to use in your writing.
Length: Two hours, followed by one-hour, for participants to write and/or discuss their work.
